Character Designs 2: Lil' Ally

Image
If you've watched the Tom and Jerry series, you would have seen many recurring characters. Among them were Little Quaker, the duckling. It was one of my favourite. I used Li'l Quaker as a reference for my current character design. I designed an alien called Li'l Ally. The shapes that I used to draw Li'l Ally are: Tear drop shape for the head Pear shape for the body Sausage shapes for the limbs A circle for the eye I also used Mike Wazowski from the Monsters inc. as a reference for the 'one eyed' expressions. Well, ain't he cute...! That's all for now... Good day y'all!! ~~~~~~~~~Chinmayee.S

Character Designs 1: Snowy Bunny

The Tom and Jerry show. This was every single person's childhood. The old cat and mouse rivalry was always a treat to watch and it still is.  The animation used in this cartoon is called 'Traditional animation' in which you have to draw each frame... Each frame...!! It has wonderful character designs. I used Jerry mouse as a reference for my current character design assignment. I made a design of a rabbit and used Jerry's poses to draw my bunny. "Hello!!" "What's that I hear?" Self defence is necessary... "Time to eat...!" "... Ouch...!" And did you know? Tom was initially named 'Jasper' and Jerry was initially named 'Jinx'. Victory Cheer...!! I really like this pose. "Mercy...!"  Startled jump!  "Stop making so much noise...!" The shapes that I used are: Circle for the head. Pear shape for the body. Elon

Facial Expressions. They are a form of non-verbal communication. Our feelings can be conveyed without even uttering a word, if the other person observes closely. Facial expressions play a very important role in drawing cartoons. Even if it's a simple eyebrow raise or a wide open mouth, every single line defines the emotion of the character. It expresses it's feelings. The key in drawing cartoon expressions is 1. To exaggerate the features. 2. Break the symmetry. 3. Follow the weight/inverse rule. So we were given an assignment in college. We were asked to pick a vegetable, and were supposed give it a face and express it's feelings by altering the features. I chose a Tomato. So, meet Mr. Tomato...!! Nerdy and sleepy.
